The youngest individual Olympic medallist was Nils Skoglund (Sweden, b. 15 August 1906), who won a silver medal in the plain high diving event aged 14 years 11 days at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp, Belgium, on 26 August 1920.
Sweden were hugely successful in the 1920 Olympics, finishing second in the medals table behind the United States with 19 gold medals. In the plain high diving event they completed a clean sweep, winning all three medals on offer. At the other end of the age spectrum the Swedish shooter Oscar Swahn also won a silver medal aged 72 years 280 days, the oldest medallist to date.
