The first ever bridge to be constructed according to a design by Italian artist and inventer Leonardo da Vinci is the Golden Horn bridge. Originally designed by Leonardo in 1502 to cross the Bosphorus in Istanbul, the bridge was finally constructed as a 100-metre-long, 8-metre-high wood-and-steel footbridge over the E18 motorway in Aas, Norway, in 2001. It was created by artist Vebjorn Sand with the Norwegian National Roads Authority.
