The longest canal bridge is the 918-metre Magdeburg Water Bridge in Germany, connecting the Mittellandkanal and Elbe-Havel Canal. Opened on 10 October 2003, the 43-metre-wide structure uses 24,000 tonnes of steel and 68,000 m³ of concrete. It can carry ship loads of up to 1,350 tonnes.
