Aoki comfortably out-travelled fellow DJs Paul Oakenfold (361,590 km; 224,681.6 miles; 129 shows), Paul van Dyk (359,872 km; 223,614 miles; 99 shows), David Guetta (339,703 km; 211,081.6 miles; 133 shows) and Skrillex (330,974 km; 205,657.7 miles; 142 shows) during the year, performing in Argentina, Australia, Austria, The Bahamas, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Nicaragua, Panama, Philippines, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, UK, USA and Venezuela.

Pop-rock outfit Hot Chelle Rae are one of just three non-DJ acts in the top 20, the others being singer-songwriter Kimbra (best-known for her collaboration with Gotye on the world's biggest-selling single of 2012, "Somebody that I Used to Know") and hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar.

The survey, first published in the June 2013 edition of Wired magazine, covers approximately 100,000 artists and 800,000 gigs from 2012. "Unsurprisingly, laptop-wielding DJs dominate the most-travelled list over bands and their heavy (and expensive) equipment," commented the magazine.

The Grammy-nominated Steve Aoki's surname is pronounced "ah-oh-key". His parents were originally from Tokyo, Japan.
