The smallest crabs are the parasitic pea crabs, Pinnotheres spp., belonging to the family Pinnotheridae, some of which can measure no more than 6.3 mm across. They live inside the mantle cavities of various bivalve molluscs, such as oysters and mussels, where they feed upon food collected by their molluscan host's gills.
