The fastest-moving crustaceans on land are the tropical ghost crabs of the genus Ocypode, which inhabit burrows above the high-tide mark on sandy beaches, mostly bordering the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. Despite always running sideways rather than forwards, they have been timed at speeds of up to 4 m per second.
