Molla Bjurstedt-Mallory (Norway, 6 March 1884–22 November 1959), was 42 years 171 days old when she won the women's singles title at the 1926 US National Championships (now US Open). Molla beat Elizabeth Ryan 4–6, 6–4, 9–7, in the final on 23 August.
The oldest champion of the Open era (since 1968) was Margaret Court (Australia, b. 16 July 1942), who beat Evonne Goolagong 7–6, 5–7, 6–2, in the final on 8 September 1973 at the age of 31 years 55 days.
