Seven players retired mid-match or withdrew before making it on to court during the second round at the Wimbledon Championships in London, UK, on 26 June 2013. Dubbed "Wipeout Wednesday", Wimbledon's casualty list featured Victoria Azarenka (knee), Marin Cilic (knee), Steve Darcis (shoulder), John Isner (knee), Yaroslava Shvedova (arm), Radek Stepanek (hamstring) and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (knee). Two more players – Michael Llodra (hamstring) and Paul-Henri Mathieu (neck) – retired from their second-round matches on 27 June to bring the total number of retirements/walkovers in round two to nine, equalling the record number of withdrawals in a single round in Grand Slam history, set during the first round of the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York, USA, on 29–31 August 2011. Round two, "Wipeout Wednesday", 26 June 2013: Victoria Azarenka (seeded 2, knee, retired without playing); Steve Darcis (shoulder, retired without playing; Darcis had beaten fifth seed Rafael Nadal in round one); John Isner (seeded 18, knee, retired during match); Radek Stepanek (hamstring, retired during match); Marin Cilic (seeded 10, knee, retired without playing); Yaroslava Shvedova (arm, retired without playing); Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (seeded 6, knee, retired during match).

Round two, Thursday, 27 June 2013: Paul-Henri Mathieu (neck, retired during match), Michael Llodra (hamstring, retired during match).

Note: 26 June 2013 was also significant for the second-round defeats of the number three seeds in the men's and ladies' draws. Roger Federer's record sequence of 36 consecutive Grand Slam quarter-finals came to an end against Sergiy Stakhovsky (6-7, 7-6, 7-5, 7-6) and Maria Sharapova lost 6-3, 6-4 to Larcher de Brito. The Sharapova-de Brito match was a contender for the noisiest match in ladies' tennis history, with the players' loudest screams/grunts measured at 103 dB and 109 dB, respectively.

Among a number of other records set in round two at Wimbledon 2013 was the worst performance by ladies' top 10 seeds in the first two rounds of a Grand Slam tournament – only four made it to round three at SW19.
