The first winner of cycling's Triple Crown is Eddy Merckx (Belgium), who won the Tour de France, Giro d´Italia and UCI Road World Cycling Championships in 1974. The only other person to achieve this feat is Stephen Roche (Ireland) in 1987. The Triple Crown of Cycling is considered the greatest achievement in the sport. To date nobody has managed to win the "alternative" Triple Crown by winning all three of the Grand Tours in a single year.
