Jerboas are desert-dwelling rodents that jump and leap on their hind legs like miniature kangaroos. The world's largest species of jerboa is the suitably named great jerboa Allactaga major, which has a head-and-body length of 18 cm, plus a tail length of 26 cm. It principally inhabits deserts in Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
