Endemic to Asia and traditionally classed as insectivores, then later transferred to the primates, tree shrews are now categorized within their own, separate taxonomic order, Scandentia. The largest species of tree shrew is the common tree shrew Tupaia glis, native to Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. It has a maximum head-and-body length of 23 cm, a maximum tail length of 20 cm, and a maximum weight of 185 g.
