Released in arcades in January 1990 by American Laser Games, western shoot-'em-up Mad Dog McCree is the first light-gun game to use live-action video footage, shot on a set with actors, rather than pre-rendered graphics. Players take the role of an avenging gunslinger, saving a frontier town from bandits by shooting the characters in the film with their plastic six-shooter. The game has since been adapted for various home consoles, including the Wii and PlayStation 3, and inspired the parody Wavy Tube Man Chronicles in Kinect game, The Gunstringer.
