The first videogame console to use cartridge games was the Fairchild Channel F (originally known as the Fairchild Video Entertainment System), which was released in August 1976 by Fairchild Semiconductor. It contained the Fairchild F8 CPU, and allowed owners to access new games rather than just built-in titles.
The Fairchild was also the first second-generation console and the first to have CPU.
