Biggest launch for a survival-horror videogame

For its debut in October 2012, Capcom shipped 4.5 million copies of Resident Evil 6 to retailers. This was the biggest launch for a survival horror game ever and also the largest initial shipment in the 30-year history of Capcom. The Japanese firm predicted that Resident Evil 6 would sell 7 million units worldwide and become its single biggest-selling title, but the game received a mixed critical reception and initial sales fell short at 4.9 million. Despite this ‘blip’, Resident Evil remains Capcom’s biggest-selling videogame series with lifetime sales of 56 million as of March 2013.
