The fastest 100 m carrying a partner is 19.23 seconds, and was achieved by Ross and Nicole McCurdy (both USA), in Silverdale, Washington, USA, on 23 July 2020.
Ross chose to break this record because he had already achieved records with his two daughters and wanted his wife to be included in something special with him.
Ross has always carried his wife as a romantic gesture, up the stairs, across the room... and he is a fitness enthusiast, so it was natural to put these two passions together.
Training for a record attempt can happen in many different ways, and 16 years as a father, carrying everything his children could find through airports, hotels and Disneyland helped in his preparation. Ross' biggest goal is to be able to carry his family, physically and emotionally.
The biggest challenge for this record was the audience, and telling his wife that she needed to be weighed on camera as part of the verification process, which granted him a laugh and a little punch in the arm.
Ross trains many days a week, but this record attempt was more challenging than he initially expected. He cramped after the record attempt and had to have a lie down for a bit, fortunately, by the next day he was fully recovered.
This is not his first Guinness World Records record title, nor will be his last attempt. Ross' daughter was diagnosed 14 years ago with an autoimmune condition, which limited her in many ways through life; Ross started breaking record to show her that anything is possible and that with enough hard work, only the sky is the limit.
