The largest videogame space battle was staged in the system of M-OEE8 in the space sim MMO EVE Online (CCP Games, 2003) on 10 December 2016. For six hours a peak of 5,337 players battled over a giant, player-made structure called the Keepstar Citadel, which had been under attack from the mercenary faction known as Pandemic Legion for around 3–4 months. By the time the battle had reached its peak, the Pandemic Legion's attacking forces outnumbered the monument's defending forces on a ratio of more than 20:1 according to CCP. The epic skirmish smashed the game's previous record, in which 4,070 players fought for control of the 6VDT star system in 2013.
