CyberConnect2 pitted the raging Asura against Street Fighter’s demonic Akuma in Asura’s Wrath (CyberConnect2, 2012) as part of the Lost Episode 2 DLC released on 16 May 2012. As the player took control of Mantra Asura to fight Akuma in his ultimate Oni form, it quickly became apparent that they were evenly matched. The game then cutaway to a “500 years later…” message before the combatants continued their assault. There’s no ironclad rule for how long a fighting game round should last, but 99 seconds seems to be the accepted middle-ground. Any less would result in too many timeouts while any more would diminish the sense of urgency. But how about a match that lasts over 500 years?
