The first fighting videogame prequel was Street Fighter Alpha: Warrior’s Dreams (Capcom, 1995), which was set between Street Fighter II and the original Street Fighter. Released on 5 June 1995, the game introduced players to Guile’s friend Charlie (known as Nash in Japan), the majestic Rose and the goofy-looking Dan. After the meteoric success of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (Capcom, 1991) and its four main updates, fighting game fans were left wondering where Capcom would take Ryu and company next. Logic suggested that Street Fighter III (Capcom, 1997) was just around the corner, but that took a few more years to surface.
