Francis Joyon (France) sailed singlehandedly from New York, USA, to The Lizard at the southern tip of Cornwall, UK, in the 36-m-long (118-ft) IDEC in a time of 5 days 2 hours 56 minutes and 10 seconds. He sailed a total of 2,880 nautical miles (3,314 miles; 5,333 km), arriving on 16 June 2013.
Joyon set off on 11 June 2013 and achieved an average speed of 23.41 knots (43.36 km/h; 26.94 mph). This record was previously held by Thomas Coville (France), who set a time of 5 days 19 hours 30 minutes 40 seconds in 2008.
