Longest development period for a racing videogame
- Who
- Gran Turismo 5 (Sony, 2010)
- Where
- Not Applicable
- When
- 24 November 2010
At the 2005 E3 videogame expo in L.A., California, USA, a game called Vision Gran Turismo was showcased by Sony. That game would become Gran Turismo 5 (Sony, 2010), and it would take five years of development before it was available to buy. It was released on 24 November 2010.
By the standards of Duke Nukem Forever (2K, 2011) this is the blink of an eye – the ill-fated shooter took 15 years to make and holds the record for Longest development period for any videogame – but GT5’s five-year stretch is the longest any racing game has been in development for.
