When it was released in North America on 13 November 2012, F1 Race Stars (Codemasters, 2012) became the first karting videogame to carry an official Formula One license. The game caricatures all 24 drivers from the 2012 season. The North American release (on 13 November 2012) was three days ahead of the Eurpoean release for the game.

The game turns all 12 teams cars into "power-ups", which enhance each car. For example, the "Ricochet Bubble" power-up traps a fellow driver's car, thus slowing them down, while the "Rain Cloud" power-up causes a torrent of rain to fall on the car leading the race.
