A female character option was created in NHL 12 (EA Sports, 2011), with Lexi Peters (USA) – a 14-year-old at the time – appearing as the default female player. Peters, who lives in Buffalo, USA, plays for the all-girl team Purple Eagles and was included in the game after the NHL gave permission. She had written to EA Sport to complain that women were not represented in the franchise.
