Richard Petty (USA) holds the all-time record for consecutive National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) wins, with 10 victories in a row from 12 August to 1 October 1967. A 1972 rule change eliminated races under 250 miles (400 km) in length (later reduced to 186.4 miles/300 km). Thus, 1972 onwards is known as the modern NASCAR era.
