In one American experiment carried out in 1910, a specimen of the Common flea (Pulex irritans), allowed to leap at will, performed a long jump of 33 cm (1 ft 1 in) and a high jump of 19.7 cm (7.75 in). In jumping 130 times its own height a flea subjects itself to a force of 200 g.
