A 19-month-old border collie called Elan Valley Sally sold for £19,451 ($24,298) - including 5% buyer's premium - at an online Farmers Marts auction held on 24 June 2020. The hammer price, prior to the premium being added, was £18,525 ($23,141). Working dog Sally was sold by David Evans (UK) of Penclyn Farm in Brecon, Wales, UK, and was purchased by an anonymous bidder based in the UK.
Sally was sired by Derwen Doug, owned by David Evans' son Kevin, who is an internationally acclaimed sheepdog triallist. Doug has an excellent competition pedigree, having won the 2018 European Nursery Championship and come runner-up in the World Sheep Dog Trials.
It was a very successful auction for the Evans family: as well as Sally, father David also sold a 25-month-old bitch (called Non) for £11,025 ($13,772), while Kevin sold a 31-month-old sheepdog (called Lynn) for £10,300 ($12,867).

The average price for a sheepdog sold at auction is typically around £2,000 ($2,500).
