Despite losing the toss on each occasion, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni masterminded a 4–0 home series whitewash against Australia in February and March 2013 as India won four matches in a series for the first time in their Test history. India won the 1st Test by eight wickets, the 2nd Test by an innings and 135 runs, and the 3rd and 4th Tests by six wickets.

Dhoni was the first Indian captain to whitewash any Test team, and only the second Test captain (after South Africa’s Ali Bacher) to whitewash Australia.

Dhoni’s 224 in the 1st Test was the highest score by an Indian Test captain.
