The Central California Women’s Facility is located in Chowchilla in California, USA, and is the largest prison dedicated to women only. It is also the home of all of California’s female death row inmates. As of 30 January 2013, it was operating at more than 184.6% of its capacity, housing 3,700 inmates in a complex designed for 2,004 beds.
The largest private prison in Europe dedicated to women only is HMP Bronzefield situated near Ashford, Middlesex, UK. Originally built for 465 inmates, it now has a capacity of 527 inmates.
