The most successful foreign-language animation studio is Studio Ghibli (Japan), with a worldwide gross of $1,395,722,174 (£1,046,950,000) from 19 feature films, as of 26 November 2021.
Studio Ghibli was founded in in 1985 in Koganei, Tokyo, by directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata and producer Toshio Suzuki. It has grown into the highest-grossing animation studio outside of the USA thanks to worldwide hits such as 2001’s Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (“Spirited Away”) and 2005’s Hauru no ugoku shiro (“Howl’s Moving Castle”).
