When the space shuttle Columbia launched on 11 November 1982 it carried two commercial communications satellites in its cargo bay. SBS 3 and Anik C3 were owned by Satellite Business Systems (USA) and Telesat Canada respectively. The mission, STS-5, was the fifth flight in America’s space shuttle programme.
