The US broadcaster NBC agreed in June 2011 to a $4.38-billion (£2.83-billion) contract with the International Olympic Committee to show the Olympic Games on television in the USA from 2014 to 2020. NBC have held the North American broadcast rights for the Olympics since 1988, and the Winter Olympics since 2002. They paid $1.2 billion for the right to broadcast the London 2012 Olympics. The deal breaks down as follows: $775 million for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia; $1.23 billion for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; $963 million for the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea; and $1.45 billion for the 2020 Olympics (the host city to be named on 7 September 2013).

NBC also paid $2.1 billion for London 2012.
