The first computer-controlled motion-control movie camera was used for Star Wars (USA, 1977) and was capable of memorizing and repeating sophisticated camera movements. It could do the same manoeuvres around different models so that elements in battle sequences could be filmed separately and later combined to spectacular effect.
John Dykstra (USA) was special effects supervisor on Star Wars. The new form of camera control was named Dykstraflex after him. He won an Oscar for his work on Star Wars - and another for his work on Spider Man 2 (USA, 2004).
