Country with the highest percentage of the world's poor

The country that is home to the highest percentage of the world's poor people is India. Despite a growing economy its borders contain 41.01% of the world's poor. China is home to the second highest percentage of the world's poor, with 22.12%. While recognising the inherent difficulties in reaching a useful definition of poverty, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs defines poverty as “equating to those who earn $1.25 a day or less”.
