The world's largest nocturnal zoo exhibit is the Kingdoms of the Night, which is housed within the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska, USA, and which comprises over 3,900 square metres. The exhibit cost $31.5 million to create and opened in April 2003. It contains reversed day-night cycles, so that visitors can observe nocturnal animals exhibiting their natural activity patterns, and includes such animals as aardvarks, bush-babies, fruit bats, blind cave fishes, and rare Japanese giant salamanders.
