The world's first elevator for cyclists was the Trampe Bicycle Lift in Trondheim, Norway, opened in 1993. Riders placed an outstretched right leg onto a moving footrest, then were pushed up 130 m along the steep 1-in-5 gradient Brubakken hilll at nearly 5 mph. More than 220,000 bicyclists used the Trampe Bicycle Lift, which was built to encourage commuter cycling, before it was replaced with the similar "CycloCable" system in spring 2013. The original system was reinstalled at the Public Roads Administration Museum near Lillehammer. The lift requires a special "lift card" to pay for each use.
