GTAV made $1 bn (£621 m) in just three days on sale in September 2013, making it the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 bn; indeed, it is two days faster than the 2019 blockbuster movie Avengers: Endgame (USA) grossed that sum.
The game hit a previous sales milestone, 225 million, in February 2026.
