As of April 2025, it had shifted 215 million copies, making it not only the most successful Grand Theft Auto game but also the best-seller in its genre.
Grand Theft Auto V is also the best-selling game for PlayStation 3, shifting 20.3 million units on the Sony console alone.
GTA V made $1 billion (£621 million) in just three days on sale in September 2013, making it the fastest entertainment property to gross $1 bn; indeed, it is two days faster than the 2019 blockbuster movie Avengers: Endgame (USA) grossed that milestone sum.
