The first email message to be beamed back to Earth by astronauts on the high frontier was sent on 28 August 1991 by Shannon Lucid and James C. Adamson aboard the NASA space shuttle Atlantis. The message was composed on an Apple Macintosh Portable, and sent over the AppleLink network to Marcia Ivans at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, USA. The message text read: “Hello Earth! Greetings from the STS-43 Crew. This is the first AppleLink from space. Having a GREAT time, wish you were here,...send cryo and RCS! Hasta la vista, baby,...we'll be back!”
