Mailing children via the US parcel post seems to have happened rather frequently during the early 20th century. The first case was an unnamed baby boy in Ohio, mailed just a few weeks after the service was introduced, in 1913, from his parents’ house to his grandparents just a mile away – posted for the grand sum of 15 cents. After more children were mailed through 1914, the practice led to the Postmaster issuing an order barring the sending of human beings by the US Parcel Post.
