Tropical Cyclone Kerry, which lasted from 13 February to 6 March 1979 in the Coral Sea in the South Pacific, had an eye which measured some 180 kilometres (112 miles) across. The eye of the cyclone was measured on 21 February by reconnaissance aircraft. This record is ratified by the World Meteorological Organization.
By contrast, the smallest recorded eye in a tropical cyclone is 6.7 km (4 mi) for Tropical Cyclone Tracy, recorded over Darwin, Australia, on 24 December 1974.
