The smallest breed of sporting spaniel (i.e. excluding non-sporting toy breeds) is the American Cocker Spaniel. Its breed standard states that the male should not exceed 39 cm high at the withers, nor should the female exceed 37 cm. This means that it is also the smallest of all breeds within the Sporting Dog category.
