In most regions of the world, as recognized by the FCI, or Fédération Cynologique Internationale (World Canine Federation), which contains kennel clubs from 83 countries internationally, the smallest breed of hound is a tiny breed of dachshund known as the Kaninchen or Rabbit Dachshund. It weighs only 3.6–5.0 kg, but is comparable in all other morphological features to the larger, Standard Dachshund, including existing in three different coat varieties – Smooth-haired, Long-haired, and Wire-haired. In the USA and UK, however, where the Kaninchen is not recognized as a distinct breed, the smallest recognized hound breed is the Miniature Dachshund, which should weigh less than 6 kg, but more than the lowest weight extreme for the Kaninchen.
