Wicked, with music, lyrics and book by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman (both USA), grossed $5,037,392 (£4 m) in the seven days ending 29 December 2024, according to broadwayworld.com. In this week, the cast performed nine shows to a total of 17,334 people, who paid an average of $290.61 (£230.99) per seat.
This marks the first time a Broadway production has grossed over $5 m in a single week.
While Wicked has remained a sought-after choice among theatregoers since opening on Broadway in 2003, the release of the film adaptation in November 2024 boosted the show’s popularity.
Since 2003, Wicked has racked up a cumulative gross of $1,759,287,951 (£1.286 bn) from 8,440 performances, as of 3 July 2025.
Many shows log their highest-grossing weeks in the seven days between Christmas and New Year’s, including the previous record holder Hamilton, which grossed $4,041,493 (£3,181,050) between 24 and 30 December 2018.
