The world's smallest species of falcon is the black-thighed falconet Microhierax fringillarius. Native to southeastern Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia, this tiny forest-dwelling species normally measures 14–16 cm long, weighs only 0.035 kg, and has a wingspan of just 27–32 cm (roughly equal to that of a sparrow).
