The most world heavyweight title bouts contested is 29 and was achieved by Wladimir Klitschko (Ukraine), who was crowned WBO champion on 14 October 2000 and fought his 29th world title fight against Anthony Joshua (UK) at Wembley Stadium, London, UK, on 29 April 2017. A two-time heavyweight champion, Klitschko lost the Joshua bout in an 11th-round TKO, and subsequently announced his retirement from boxing.
Wladimir Klitschko became WBO Heavyweight champion by defeating Chris Byrd by unanimous decision in Germany in 2000; he made five successful defences before a surprise defeat to Corrie Sanders in 2003. He would regain the title against Byrd in 2006 and become champion under three sanctioning bodies before unifying the title by outboxing David Haye in 2011.
Klitschko remained unbeaten until November 2015, when he suffered a defeat on points to Tyson Fury.
