The world's heaviest species of stick insect is the giant jungle nymph Heteropteryx dilatata. It is native to a considerable expanse of rainforest in southeast Asia, including peninsular Malaysia plus Sarawak on Borneo, as well as Sumatra, Singapore and Thailand. Females are much bulkier than males, and the largest specimen of this species officially recorded was an adult female maintained at London Zoo in 1977, which weighed 51.2 g, and measured 14 cm.
