The highest-altitude home, providing a place of residence for periods of several months or more, is the International Space Station (ISS) at an orbit of between 330 km (205 mi) and 410 km (255 mi) above the Earth. First launched in 1998, the ISS normally has six scientists and astronauts living there at any one time.
