The highest summit on an island is Puncak Jaya in New Guinea, Indonesia, which is 4,884 m (16,024 ft) above sea level. The summit, also known as the Carstensz Pyramid, is the highest point on Mount Carstensz in the Sudirman mountain range in Papua Province, and is also the highest point in Oceania. Accordingly, it is one the "Seven Summits" based on the Carstensz list.

Puncak Jaya translates as "Peak of Victory", or "Victory Peak". It was first sighted in 1623 by the Dutch explorer Jan Carstenszoon (whence the name Carstensz Pyramid), but left unverified for 200 years. It remained unconquered until 1962, when it was successfully climbed by a four-man team led by Heinrich Harrer (Austria, 1912–2006), author of Seven Years in Tibet.
