On 6 March 1869, Russian chemist Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev (8 February 1834 – 2 February 1907) presented "The Dependence Between the Properties of the Atomic Weights of the Elements" to the Russian Chemical Society. The rules presented defined how elements could be arranged in order of atomic weight and grouped together where they exhibited similar properties (metals with metals, for example). The table was quickly published around the world, starting with the German journal, Zeitschrift fur Chemie ("Chemistry Magazine"). Despite earlier publications of elements grouped in smaller number and with different properties, Mendeleev is universally accepted as the "father" of the Periodic Table as organized by atomic mass.
