The world's smallest species of python is the pygmy python Antaresia perthensis. Native to the northwest portion of Western Australia and some coastal islands, adults attain a total length of only 50 cm or so, and weigh no more than 210 g. It is also known as the anthill python, because it can often be found inside termite mounds.
