The first female alpinists to reach the peak of Annapurna from the North Face (8,091 m; 26,545 ft) in the Himalayas, Nepal, were Czech-born Vera Komarkova (née Růžičková, USA, b. 25 December 1942, d. 25 May 2005) and Irene Miller (USA b. 18 August 1935), who reached the summit on 15 October 1978.
