With sales of at least 1.5 million copies, Rolf Zuckowski’s (Germany) 1987 album Winterkinder (Winter Children) is the biggest-selling German-language Christmas album in history according to figures published by the Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI). Winterkinder has been certified 3x platinum in Germany.
Zuckowski, born on 12 May 1947 in Hamburg, Germany, is famous for writing songs for children and has released more than 50 albums during his career. He has sold 17 million albums.
According to the BVMI, the next biggest-selling album of Christmas songs in German is Andrea Jürgens’ (Germany) 1979 album Weihnachten mit Andrea Jürgens - Meine 20 schönsten Weihnachtslieder (Christmas with Andrea Jürgens - My 20 Most Beautiful Christmas Songs), which has sold at least 1.25 million copies. This album has been certified 5x gold by the BVMI.
